Jay Shankar, M.D.

Dr. Jay Shankar, M.D. is Medical Director and C.E.O. of High Desert Nephrology and Desert Cities Dialysis, and is a prominent member of the high desert community.

Education:

​

Dr. Shankar studied at Yuvaraja’s College in Mysore, India and received his degree there in 1966.  He then continued on to Mysore Medical College receiving the following degrees:  M.B.B.S in 1974. 

​

Dr. Shankar completed his Compulsory Rotating Internship in 1973 at Mysore Medical College Hospitals in India.

​

Dr. Shankar was a Resident in General Surgery at J.J.M. Medical College Hospital in Davangere, India from 1973-75, and also at Sligo General Hospital in Sligo Ireland, South Charitable Infirmary in Cork, Ireland and Ulster Hospital in Belfast, Ireland from 1976-79.

 

Dr. Shankar got his E.C.F.M.G. in July of 1976, immigrated to the United States in 1979, and later in June of 1980 got F.L.E.X. He completed a Flexible Internship position at Elyria Memorial Hospital in Elyria, OH from 1979-80 and moved on to be a Resident in internal Medicine at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn, MI from 1980-1983.

From there, Dr. Shankar went on to be a Fellow in Nephrology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI from 1983-85 and went back to Oakwood Hospital as a Nephrologist from 1985-1986.

​

In 1987-1988, Dr. Shankar became Chief Nephrologist for Lakeside Medical Center and then continued on to John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Indio in 1988, moving into practice at Internal Medicine and Nephrology in Victorville, CA from 1988-91.

​

From here, Dr. Shankar has come to stay in the High Desert of the Victor Valley as Medical Director and CEO of High Desert Nephrology and Desert Cities Dialysis from 1991 to the present.
